Brow Expert and Head of Product Development, and Head of Operations at Sania’s Brown Bar in Scarsdale, New York
“I love being able to help people feel more confident. I love seeing their excitement when we finish our work.”
Sania began shaping her daughter Val’s brows when she was around age 13, at a time when the young teen’s friends were obsessed with waxing their brows down to thin little lines. Meanwhile, Val embraced her mother’s appreciation for natural minimalism and her less-is-more mentality; she proceeded to pay special attention to brows every time she saw a celebrity in a magazine or on the big screen.
After Val graduated from NYU in 2010 with a Bachelor’s degree in sociology and economics, she joined Sania as head of product development with a focus on sourcing and branding Sania’s Brow Bar pencils, tweezers, and scissors. But it wasn’t until Sania brought on Bona and Suzy that Val decided to join them in beauty school and became a brow shaping expert herself.
An artist at heart, Val appreciates how brows can frame a person’s face like a canvas. After a client who’d just finished chemotherapy hugged her at the end of a brow shaping session, she’s become keenly aware of the difference that great brows can make.
Val played a pivotal role for the company during COVID, when the salon closed for 4 months and clients fled the city for the suburbs. She oversaw all operations for the brand’s second shop, which opened in February 2021 in Scarsdale, NY, where she lives with her husband and two children.
Brow Expert and Head of Marketing and Public Relations
“Eyebrows can help people feel like best versions themselves. Giving people confidence is the most fulfilling part of my job.”
The daughter of a storied brow sculptor who’d always kept her kids’ brows looking great, Suzy had long taken her good luck for granted. But when two friends showed up at senior prom in tears after a waxing session left them both with unflattering, pencil-thin brows, she began to appreciate the way brows could make or break one’s confidence.
Although Suzy was a self-proclaimed skincare product junkie who’d always spent her allowance on soaps, lotions, and cleansers, she went on to pursue a Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Science in math education at NYU. She was teaching middle and high school mathematics while considering a PhD when her mom approached her about joining Sania’s Brow Bar.
Excited to help grow the family business, harness her creativity, and challenge the misconception that educated women can’t also be glamorous, Suzy accepted on the spot. She joined Bona and Val in beauty school, and took on marketing and public relations while continuing to pursue her PhD in mathematics.
Brow Expert and Head of Client Relations and Operations
“I truly love sharing the experience of the salon. When you get here, you realize it’s about so much more than brows.”
A psychology major who graduated from Montclair University, Bona is a long-time beauty and fashion enthusiast: As a kid, she’d subscribe to W Magazine, cut out items she loved, and collage her own fashion catalogs for inspiration. She was fine with her brows until she was a teenager, when Sania, a close cousin, shaped them and “changed her life.”
Bona was working at Gucci when Sania offered her a job at Sania’s Brow Bar. Because Bona saw sculpting brows as a way to express her creativity, the obvious answer was yes.
And so Bona embarked on a 75-hour esthetician course in addition to scrupulous training from Sania herself. Years later, the brow expert handles all administrative duties and makes it her business to greet clients by name and send them off feeling better than when they walked in.
